Zaccai Curtis is a pianist and composer advancing African – Caribbean – New Orleans music norms in rapid motion. The Zaccai Curtis Afro-Cuban Jazz Quartet expands upon the CUBOP era, mixing new compositions and classics from Dizzy Gillespie, Kenny Dorham to Machito. Through exploration, this ensemble brings forth a new sound to classic Afro-Cuban jazz concepts with their own arrangements – taking the music to uncharted landscapes. Zaccai Curtis is a Winner of the 2017 Chamber Music America’s “New Jazz Works.” Zaccai Curtis Afro-Cuban Jazz Quartet features: bassist Luques Curtis, timbale player Willie Martínez; along with, conga players Camilo Molina and Reinaldo De Jesús.
