Master conguero and percussionist Norman Hedman has recorded with artists ranging from the Main Ingredient, Alicia Keys and Daryl Hall to Arthur Blythe and Pat Martino, and has been an MVP touring sideman with the O’Jays, Von Freeman, and Arturo Sandoval while in Chico Freeman’s band. He’s also opened for Kenny Garrett, Santana and Earth, Wind & Fire. Hedman has led his own group, Norman Hedman’s Tropique, in engagements at Jazz Standard and other top venues. During January rehearsals with Alicia Keys for her upcoming world tour, Norman was diagnosed with leukemia and he is currently undergoing treatment at Sloan Kettering Memorial Hospital. Jazz Standard presents a very special star-studded event, hosted by WBGO’s Rob Crocker, in honor of Norman Hedman in an effort to defray his considerable medical expenses in his battle against leukemia. Join countless of other jazz, soul, R&B, and gospel fans in support of Hedman. A silent auction will be held featuring items from Alicia Keys, Ty Law, NFL cornerback #24, and others.
